History of the Cape Tormentine Beach Music Festival

CAPE TORMENTINE, N.B. – August 4, 5 and 6 of 2023 marks the eighth annual Cape Tormentine Beach Music Festival!

Locals may remember a much older festival spanning almost two decades. The original music festival was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Port Elgin.

Dorothy Kean, President of the Cape Tormentine Community Development Corporation explains, “When the Rotary Club decided not to hold the event anymore, the CTCDC felt we wanted to continue having this event in our community. Not only does it provide a great weekend of entertainment for visitors, but there are spinoffs for the local community”.

Originally a country music festival, the event has since hosted an eclectic range of music. While Country music will always be featured, folk, bluegrass, rock and everything in between has delighted festival goers through the years. While the well-known acts are always a draw, the event also provides a platform for local musicians.

It’s an extravaganza of musical talent, memories and community and it’s all for a good cause!

In the past funds raised from the festival have helped with the creation of a playground for local children, refurbishing of the historical Inner Cape Tormentine lighthouse and most recently, to support the rebuilding of Indian Point Lighthouse which continues this year.

Kean further explains, “The purpose of our organization is to revitalize our community through tourism, arts and culture, beautification and to bring industry to the region if possible. Although it has been slow going, our organization has been able to develop and operate the Cape Tormentine Beach Campground, that we’re all very proud of.”

The campsite currently has 59 seasonal camp sites, 10 transient sites and many dry camp sites.
